Characteristics of POM

  Polyformaldehyde is a thermoplastic crystalline polymer. Known as “super steel” or “saigang”, also known as polyoxymethylene. The abbreviation is POM.
  
  POM has high strength and rigidity, good elasticity and wear resistance. Its mechanical properties are excellent, the specific strength can reach 50.5mpa, the specific stiffness can reach 2650mpa, which is very close to metal. The mechanical properties of POM change little with temperature, and the change of copolymerized POM is a little bigger than homopolymerized POM. The impact strength of POM is higher than that of ABS and PC; POM is sensitive to notches, which can reduce the impact strength by 90%. The fatigue strength of POM is very prominent. The fatigue strength of POM can reach 35 MPa under 10 alternating loads, while that of PA and PC is only 28 MPa. The creep of POM is similar to that of PA, which is only 2.3% at 20 ℃, 21 MPa and 3000 h, and little influenced by temperature. POM has small friction coefficient, good wear resistance (POM > PA66 > PA6 > ABS > HPVC > PS > PC), large limit PV value and good self-lubricating property.
  
  POM has good electrical insulation, hardly affected by temperature and humidity; its dielectric constant and loss change little in a wide range of temperature, humidity and frequency; it has excellent arc resistance and can be maintained at high temperature.
  
  POM is not resistant to strong acid and oxidant, and has certain stability to enoic acid and weak acid. POM has good solvent resistance, can resist hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ethers, gasoline, lubricants and weak bases, and can maintain considerable chemical stability at high temperature.
